About TNPSC

The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) is a department of the Government of Tamil Nadu responsible for recruiting personnel into the state’s public services. It is the successor of the Madras Service Commission, which was established under an Act of the Madras Legislature in 1929 and was the first Provincial Public Service Commission in India. The commission adopted its present name in 1970.

TNPSC functions under Articles 315 to 323 of Part XIV of the Constitution of India. The commission advises the Government on matters relating to framing recruitment rules, appointments, promotions, and transfers, and disciplinary proceedings concerning government servants.

TNPSC also conducts competitive examinations for direct recruitment to the State, Subordinate, and Ministerial Services. In addition, it organizes departmental examinations for government employees and conducts examinations on behalf of the Ministry of Defence for admission to the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), Dehradun.
